A message from the RRLA

The Red River Lacrosse Association is happy to announce that registration for the 2021 spring box lacrosse season will be open in all zones on or before March 24, 2021.  The RRLA and all the zones in the city and surrounding areas are working extremely hard to keep up with all the changes to the public health orders so the season is still a work in progress, but we are planning on providing you with games and practices over the next few months.  Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions about the upcoming season.

What are the possibilities that lacrosse will look like this spring?
Our first choice would be indoor games with slight modifications to the game in order to limit instances of prolonged contact.  As the province updates the provincial health orders easing restrictions, the MLA can advance the organization through the phases of the Return to Play as restrictions allow.
There are lots of possibilities for us to run this spring.  These are indoor, a combination of indoor and outdoor or strictly outdoor lacrosse to follow the provincial guidelines.

How are the Cohorts going to be selected?
As per the MLA Return to Play Protocols, we need to keep the groups of teams playing together to 60 players or less.  To accommodate this, we are looking at dividing up the teams by a couple of different methods depending on how many teams/players we get registered and the team’s age group.  A couple of the different methods we are considering for this division is the geographical location, and possibly tiering some age groups to promote fair competition.  We will not know the outcome of this until we see registration numbers.

When would the season start and end?
We do not know when exactly the games will begin inside as we need to wait for them to approve team games indoors before that can happen, but we will be able to start practices and do team formations while we wait for that health order to be approved.
The regular box lacrosse season will not run any later than the end of June this year, but other lacrosse programs may run throughout the summer and fall again this year.  Those programs are still TBD currently.

How many games should I expect for my registration fees?
Since we do not know exactly when the season will start, we do not know how many games we will be able to host but we are looking at hosting anywhere between 10-15 games for each team like previous lacrosse seasons.

What happens if the season gets cancelled due to public health orders?
Each club will have refund policies in place if the season must end abruptly.  Please check with your club for more info.

Where can I go to find out about the Lacrosse Return to play policies for Covid-19?
You can find the most up-to-date information on the Manitoba Lacrosse Association’s Website at or the Red River Lacrosse Association’s website at  Please contact the Manitoba Lacrosse Association if you have any question about our return to play policy at

How can I help?
The RRLA and clubs are always looking for volunteers and coaches.  Please reach out to your club or the RRLA if you would like to join our team!  Another way you can join the team is to become a referee!  Please contact the Manitoba Lacrosse Association for more information on becoming a ref today.

March 23 Update on RRLA Box Lacrosse Season

Our club is in continual contact with the Board of the RRLA in regards to the upcoming potential season for box lacrosse. As of today (Mar 23) there is no further update as we all await the timing of things such as school re-openings as well as other sports re-starting.

We encourage everyone to please still register for the upcoming season in order that we can get a head start on things once final decisions are made on this season. No payments will be processed until decisions are made, but we would like to be able to get team numbers confirmed in order to make plans when we can.

Thank you for your continued support of Sidewinders. Stay healthy and well.

As per the decision of Manitoba Lacrosse Association and Red River Lacrosse Association (to suspend all activities until further notice due to the Covid-19 virus), we will be postponing our last Discover session until a later time.

This decision will also put our 4x4 camps on hold until more information is known. The Sidewinders along with the MLA and the RRLA will be working in the background preparing for our season to begin.

Our registrations will remain open and we encourage you to still sign up. We hope that the season will be going forward in whatever format this current situation will allow us.

We are in complete agreement with the MLA and the RRLAs decision; the safety of our players and families must come first in these uncertain times.  More information will come out as it is known.

Welcome to Sidewinders Box Lacrosse

Welcome to the Sidewinders 2020 Season. We are excited that you are here and interested in the fastest sport on two feet.

The Sidewinders Lacrosse Club is proud to provide a great sport experience for your son's and daughters. Teamwork, building friendships and great competition are what is helping our sport and Club grow. Each year, more players are choosing lacrosse as a Spring sport that helps them develop themselves, increase hand-eye coordination and participate on friendly, competitive teams.

Sidewinders are also very proud to have solid representation on multiple age-group Team MB teams over the years. This demonstrates that a strong Club experience and coaching will lead to the skills needed to play at higher levels. It all starts by getting out and playing.

Sidewinders Lacrosse History

In the year 2000 Sidewinders became the official name for all teams playing Lacrosse in the South Zone of the WMLA, now the RRLA. The initial organization was founded by Stewart Astleford, Lawrence Carpenter and Les Good. Over the years Andrew Jolly, Richard Del La Ronde, Serge Balcaen, Byron Bahniuk and Dwayne Gendzelevich have joined the Organization taking on various Board Positions. Each year we run a Discover Lacrosse Program for new players in Jan/Feb/Mar and a Pre-season camp in early Apr. to get our players ready for the season. We also host an annual PeeWee Tournament, The Jim Hunt Memorial Tournament, to honour Jim Hunt who gave so much to our Lacrosse Club but passed away in the spring of 2007.
